James Fay has over 20 years experience in the energy industry in new product market research and analysis, new business development, strategic planning, and forecasting. He is currently President of North Star Energy Group, a new energy consulting company.
Mr. Fay was recently a Principal with Primen, a for-profit joint venture (between the Gas Research Institute and the Electric Power Research Institute) to provide retail energy market intelligence and analysis for energy utilities and related companies in the energy industry. At Primen, he managed several technology market research and strategic consulting studies for both individual gas companies and collaboratives.
Prior to Primen, he was with GRI for 15 years, where he led projects designed to maximize the market impact of research and to find more effective commercialization pathways to bring new energy technologies to market. At GRI, he launched the Gas Forecasters Forum in 1998 and he initiated and managed the "Declining Residential Trends Study" for GRI and 20 gas companies in 1999-2000.
He also worked in the early 80's in Planning and Marketing support functions for Illinois Power Company. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and a degree in Geology from the University of Wisconsin. Author of more than 50 industry reports and invited papers, and conducted more than 15 industry workshops, on technology markets and value creation in deregulated energy markets.
